Stokke Scoot Stroller Review 2013

stokke_scoot1

Stokke Scoot is a new versatile luxury stroller that is designed for on-the-go parents who live in an urban environment.

It features a roomy padded seat, adjustable footrest, and one-hand fold.

One of the main selling features of Scoot is its reversible seat that is positioned higher on the frame allowing for the child to be closer to you and promoting a better bonding. You can also use it as a high chair at the cafe.

Although the recline is very deep and can accommodate a child from birth and up to 45 lbs, I would recommend getting an insert for a newborn. You can also turn it into a travel system by getting a car seat adapter.

The Scoot’s frame is narrower than an average stroller (only 21″) and it can do a 360-degree turn with a push of one finger, which makes it perfect for public transit, navigating busy streets, and narrow doorways.

The large basket can fit a lot of groceries in case you decide to go shopping. The large canopy with the ventilation panel will provide plenty of sun protection and great air circulation on a hot summer day. The handlebar can be adjusted for shorter and taller parents.

OVERALL

I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars because, while I think the Scoot model is much more practical than Xplory, it’s still a little heavy at 23 lbs for a stroller with such small wheels. I was not crazy about the removable footrest that does not add any flat surface for a younger child.

Also, there is no storage aside from a large basket underneath the seat. Overall it’s a great quality stroller that has great maneuverability as long as you stay on a flat surface.

Since the wheels are only 7″, it doesn’t handle rough terrain very well. This puppy is not cheap, retailing at around $499. It comes with a cup holder, rain cover, and bug net, but there is no bumper bar or parent console.

Features

CANOPY

It has a large canopy with a small pop-out zip-off sunvisor. There is no peekaboo window, but the canopy unzips in the back to expose a white mesh window which provides better air circulation on a hot summer day and also works as a peekaboo window.

HANDLEBAR

The handlebar is adjustable and grows from 38″ to 42″ from the ground.

SEAT

The seat is 14″ wide at the shoulder level and about 11″ wide at the bottom. It has a 21″ seat back with a measurement of 24″ from the bottom of the seat to the top of the canopy. The seat has only a two-position recline – rest and active.

The recline is operated by straps and two clips on both sides of the seat. To recline the seat, you will need to pinch both clips and the back of the seat will go down. To bring the seat back up, you will need to reinsert the clips together while lifting the back of the seat up.

The back of the seat is fully enclosed, so your little one will be well protected from wind and the sun. You can use it from birth and up to 45 lbs. I don’t recommend putting a newborn right into the seat without additional support like the Soft Shell Bag made by Stokke.

BTW, the seat is very upright in the active position. This seat is also REVERSIBLE! All you need to do is take your child out of the seat, squeeze two white levels on each side of the seat, swing it around, and lock it back in place.

There is a green indicator that will let you know if the seat is secured. The seat has the same recline positions when reversed. Since the seat sits higher on the frame than on your average stroller, it can be used as a substitute for a high chair at the cafe.

HARNESS

It has a padded adjustable 5-point harness with a center release buckle that is hard to undo. Your 3-year-old will not be able to escape. The harness has 3 positions and can be easily adjusted from the back of the seat.

FOOTREST

There are two footrests on the Scoot. One is part of the frame and is designed for an older child. It’s not adjustable and can be used as a stepping stool for the child to get into the stroller.

The second one is designed for a younger child. It’s removable and can be moved to the forward-facing or parent-facing position depending on the seat position. While it can be adjusted and has two positions in the forward-facing mode, there is only one position in the parent-facing mode.

When your child gets older, you can simply remove it and use the frame one. The adjustable footrest is not connected all the way to the seat, so you won’t be getting a more flat surface by adjusting it up.

BASKET

I really like the roomy basket on the Scoot. It will fit your large diaper bag with no problems. It’s not only large but also easily accessible from all sides.

Since the seat is positioned a little higher than on your average stroller, it’s very easy to get things in and out of the basket even with the seat fully reclined.

WHEELS

It rolls on four 7″ foam-filled wheels meaning you will never get a flat. The front wheels are swivel but can be locked straight to get through the rough terrain. This stroller is clearly designed for flat surfaces but can tackle some mommy terrain like uneven sidewalks, mulch, or grass.

BRAKE

There is a red foot brake located between the rear wheels that locks both rear wheels in place. It’s not flip-flop-friendly.

FOLD

It’s a two-step one-hand fold that is very easy to do. For a more compact fold, bring the handlebar down and the canopy up. Next, fold the bottom of the seat up, slide the lever located underneath to the side, and pull.

The stroller will fold in half. Easy! You can even do it with a child in one hand. If you place the handlebar in the lowest position, the stroller will have a standing fold. You can fold the Scoot with the seat attached facing either way.

On the Stokke site, it says you can carry the stroller while holding your child. At 23 lbs, I won’t be carrying it that far… maybe just to the trunk of my car. LOL.

The Scoot is very compact with folded dimensions of 18″H x 22.5″W x 36″L. To make the fold even more compact you can remove the wheels. They pop right off.

ACCESSORIES

It comes with a rain cover, a bug net, and a cup holder.

Cons

-Heavyweight. This is supposed to be a lightweight stroller. Well, at least that’s how they advertise it on the Stokke site. How is 23 lbs light? It’s an average weight for an all-terrain full-size stroller. The problem is that Scoot is NOT all terrain.

-Lack of storage. The underneath basket is the only storage on the Scoot. Since it’s a luxury expensive stroller, I would like to see a zipper pocket for smaller items.

-No bumper bar. I like to have a bumper bar as an extra safety feature. Also, my daughter Sophia likes to pull herself up by grabbing the bumper bar. I wish it was included.

  1. Hi just wondering if you have tried to fold the stroller with the softbag attached? I know this post is quite dated but hope you see this. Please let me know thanks.
