Joovy TooFold is a luxury versatile stroller with a creative frame design and some unique features.
It has an unusually shaped seat that might look small, but in fact is very roomy and comfortable.
The main feature of TooFold is its BUILT-IN stand-in board that can hold a second older child. It can be quickly folded up when not used.
How great is that? No attaching, no carrying board with you. Easy.
Another great thing about this model is its ability to convert into a double inline stroller with the addition of a second seat.
The main seat can accommodate a child from 3 months and up to 45 lbs while the second seat is designed for an older child from 6 months and up to 45 lbs.
Basically, it’s designed for everyday life like running errands, going to the park, or grocery store. While technically it’s not an all-terrain stroller, the large 12″ air-filled rear wheels will go through any type of terrain unless you are trail walking. The front-wheel suspension helps to absorb the bumps.
I found the adjustable double handle very unique. It can not only adjust up and down but also to the sides. You will love going shopping with TooFold because it has tons of storage.
While the basket is a medium size, the included waterproof shopping bag is huge and can hold a lot of groceries. There are also two small pockets for small items.
OVERALL
I have mixed feelings about this one. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because while it’s scored extra points for its unique design, built-in board, lightweight, large wheels, and the double seat option, I was not impressed with the hard-to-access basket, mediocre canopy, second seat age limit, stability, bulkiness, and a high price tag.
It really depends on your lifestyle and matter of preferences. Are you ready to overlook all the cons because of the built-in board, double option, lightweight, and large wheels? If yes, I would say go for it!
This buggy is on sale now for around $399, but it comes with a tire pump, sunvisor, shopping bag, stand-in board, and bottle holder. If you want to convert it into a double, you will need to purchase a second seat separately.
Features
CANOPY
It has a medium size canopy that is definitely smaller than on most luxury strollers. I think Joovy thought so too because they’ve included a sun visor that comes separately in a small round bag.
If you want more sun protection, you will need to attach the sunvisor to the frame of the stroller. I find it annoying that you have to carry an extra bag with you.
Why not attach it to the canopy and make it a pop-out sunvisor like UPPAbaby Vista has? The quality of the sunvisor is also not the best.
Finally, I think it cheapens the cool sporty look of this stroller. The canopy also has a large white mesh peekaboo window without a closure.
HANDLEBARS
It has unique handlebars that not only adjust up and down but can also be rotated up, down, in, or out. They go from 38″ up to 44″ from the ground. This is NOT a one-hand stroller.
SEAT
The seat is narrow at the top but gets wider closer to the bottom. It is 13″ wide from side to side at the very bottom with an 8″ wide seat back. The seat back is 20″ tall with a measurement of 23″ from the bottom of the seat to the top of the canopy.
It has a two-position recline for rest or active modes. You will need both hands to operate the recline. The seat can accommodate a child from 3 months and up to 45 lbs.
It comes with a removable seat liner. I like it when they include a removable seat liner because it’s so much easier to wash instead of removing the whole seat. We all know how messy our little angels are. They eat and drink while pooping into the diaper and throwing up what they just eat. LOL.
One diaper blow out or even worth, the trow up and you will be washing that seat at least three times to get the smell out. I truly think that trow ups are the worst. The smell stays forever! Sorry of the details… maybe it’s just my daughter.
SECOND SEAT OPTION
You can get a second seat and convert it into a double inline stroller. How great is that? The second seat costs around $190 and has a weight limit of 45 lbs. The canopy is stored in the back pocket of the stroller and you can put it on when needed.
Although the weight limit is 45 lbs (which is a four-year old), I don’t think a four year old will be comfortable in the back seat. And since the seat doesn’t reline, you can’t use for a newborn.
So I think it’s good from 6 months to let’s say 2.5 years. I will definitely not work for twins. There is also no footrest, but there is a leg rest. The legs of the child will be on the side of the basket.
In most other strollers with a second seat option, a child can place his legs right into the basket. In TooFold, because of the crossbar, there is no back access to the basket.
HARNESS
It has a padded adjustable 5 point harness with easy to unlock buckle. I like the attached belly pad that protects your child from the buckle or the buckle from the child. Depending on the child.
BASKET
The basket is not large, but you should be able to fit your diaper bag in it. The only problem is that it’s hard to access. There is no access from the back or the sides because of the fold mechanism. So, the only way to get into it is the front, but there is a folding strap that goes across the basket getting in the way.
SHOPPING BAG
INCLUDED! I guess Joovy realized that you can’t go grocery shopping with such a small basket because they decided to include a HUGE waterproof shopping bag.
If your child is not using the board you can attach it to the top of the frame below the handle bar and go shopping. The first time I saw it I thought of an old vacuum cleaner with the dust bag . LOL. Right?
STORAGE
There is a small storage pocket on the side of the canopy that you can put your keys in and a little larger zipper pocket on the other side where you can store your cell phone.
WHEELS
It rolls on four wheels with 12″ air-filled wheels in the back and 6″ hard rubber wheels in the front. The front wheels are double swivel wheels that can be locked straight for rougher terrain.
Technically this is not an all-terrain stroller, but because of the large air-filled tires it will handle a lot of terrain like grass, mulch, or uneven pavement with ease. The rear wheels have mudguards that also protect your child in the second seat.
The front-wheel suspension helps to absorb the bumps making the ride much smoother.
BRAKE
There is a single foot brake that you need to step on and it locks both rear wheels into place. Not flip-flop friendly.
ACCESSORIES
It comes with a tire pump and a cup holder. I love it when they include a compact tire pump. Doesn’t happen too often. Usually they make you buy everything separately.
I would call it a bottle holder because it’s too small for the cup. It’s located on the side of the canopy next to a storage pocket and is made out of fabric. Not my favorite cup holder.
STROLLER BOARD
One of the coolest features of TooFold is the built-in stand-in board that is designed for an older child. It is conveniently located on top of the rear wheels and can be expanded or folded up when you are not using it.
To expand the board all you need to do is apply the brake, push the stroller forward, and fold down the board. I love how EASY it is! Surprisingly, I was able to walk with the board without kicking it.
The board has a 45 lbs weight limit. The child has to be at least 2.5 years old to ride on it. The only problem is that this stroller can be easily tipped back, so you will need to have a baby in the seat before letting your 3 year old get on the board.
FOLD
On Joovy website they advertise it as one-hand fold. I think you will need to hold the stroller with the second hand, while bending to get to the lever. For me, this is a two-hand fold.
To fold the stroller first you need to remove the shopping bag, or a second seat, bring the canopy back, and fold up the stand-in board. Next, press on the button and lift the lever located in the back of the stroller and it will fold.
There is an automatic lock and also a standing fold. If you unlock the brake, you can even wheel it behind you like a luggage. I found this model to be very bulky.
It has folded dimensions of 17.5″L x 19″W x 41.25″H. I am sure it’s not going to fit in any trunk. It’s pretty lightweight for a stroller with ability to convert to double weighing only 23.6 lbs.
Cons
-Hard to access basket. The basket is medium size and is very hard to access. The only way to get to it is from the front, which is not very convenient if your child is in the seat.
-Medium size canopy. I was not impressed with the canopy size, but I am happy they’ve included the sunvisor. I wish it was an attached pop-out sunvisor like Vista model has.
-Two-hand seat recline. I would like to see an one-hand lever recline instead.
-Second seat leg rest. Not my favorite design. I didn’t like how the legs of the child need to go around the basket. I also feel that the second seat has very limited age range.
-Stability. The fact that it can be so easily tipped back, is scary. I always hang my diaper bag of the handle bar. Who doesn’t?! And with such a small basket, how are you going to carry all the stuff? The included shopping bag can NOT replace my diaper bag.
-Bulky. I think this is a very bulky stroller because of it’s vertical fold.
