Summer Infant 3D Zyre Convenience Stroller Review

infant-summer-3dzyre17

The Summer Infant 3D Zyre Convenience stroller is an upgraded version of the beloved 3D Lite model. It’s a lightweight, but very sturdy umbrella stroller that is full of great features.

It has a huge canopy for an umbrella model that will provide your child with full sun protection. The one-hand lever recline is perfect for long naps and quick diaper changes.

There is plenty of storage! It has a medium-sized basket, a cup holder, and a zipper pocket for small items.

Since 3D Zyre does NOT have a travel system option, it would be great as a second stroller used for traveling, going to the pool, and running errands around town.

The smooth glide wheels are designed for smooth surfaces but can handle a little of mumy terrain like grass, mulch, or uneven pavement.

The seat can accommodate a child from 6 months and up to 50 lbs. For some reason, it says that this stroller weighs 13 lbs on many websites including Amazon.

I weighed it myself and it weighs 15 lbs. I’ve also contacted Summer Infant by email, since they have no weight info on their site, and they’ve verified that it in fact does weigh 15 lbs.

BTW, have you seen how cool this stroller looks? The summer logo on the side with those cute butterflies and the curved frame in the back make it look very stylish and modern. The bright colors in the canopy against black make it really pop. Great looking stroller!

Now, the best feature of this buggy is the price! It retails for only $139 on Amazon. This is a great price for parents who already spend hundreds of dollars on their first stroller and would like something light and inexpensive.

Traveling with it would be also very convenient and you are not going to be too upset if it gets damaged or scratched.

OVERALL

Because of all the great features, lightweight, and affordable price, I gave this buggy 5 out of 5 stars. I don’t think you can find anything better for this price.

Features

CANOPY

This is one of the biggest canopies I’ve seen on an umbrella stroller. Most of the time umbrella models come with little tiny canopies that don’t offer much protection.

This canopy has three large panels with the middle panel can be zipped in when not used. There is also a medium size peekaboo window made out of clear plastic with a quiet closure (no noisy Velcro).

I like that the canopy is pretty sturdy and not going to be blown away by a little wind like many other umbrella canopies. I also love that the middle canopy has color. On the negative side, the canopy makes a loud clicking noise when you adjust it.

HANDLEBARS

The ergonomically positioned handlebars are not adjustable but are very tall. They are located 42″ from the ground which is a great height. The handlebars are covered with heat-resistant contoured foam which makes the grip very convenient.

These are nicely padded thick handles that feel great when you hold them unlike some of the umbrella strollers with thin plastic handlebars that you get blisters from after 5 minutes of pushing it.

STORAGE

There is a small zipper pocket in the back of the canopy where you can store little things like a phone, keys, or a wallet. Even though it’s very easy to include a zipper pocket and doesn’t cost much, not many strollers have it so I was very happy to see it on such a budget-friendly model.

SEAT

The seat is very roomy with plenty of headroom for a tall toddler. It is 12.5″ wide with an 18″ seat back and a measurement of 28″ from the bottom of the seat to the top of the canopy.

While the seat back is not very tall (most strollers have it at 20″), the height of the canopy is super high since most strollers have it at 24″.

The seat has a deep 3-position recline that doesn’t go to a flat position but is deep enough to accommodate a child from 6 months and up to 50 lbs. I like that it’s a one-hand lever recline and there is no strap system. Very easy to do!

HARNESS

It has an adjustable padded 5-point harness with a center release buckle. The crotch pad has a closure that completely hides the buckle from a curious toddler. It also protects the gentle skin of a baby from scratches.

BASKET

It has a medium size basket for an umbrella stroller that are known for having the smallest baskets ever. It’s easy to access from the back when the seat is in an upright position. Once the seat is reclined, you really can’t get into it.

BRAKE

There are two parking brakes, one on each rear wheel. They are not flip-flop-friendly.

WHEELS

It rolls on four hard rubber double 6″ wheels. This is an average size of wheels for an umbrella stroller. The front wheels are swivel but can be locked straight for rougher terrain.

Since there is no suspension, it doesn’t absorb bumps very well so I don’t recommend it for long walks at the park.

FOLD

It has a typical umbrella fold that requires both hands. It has an automatic lock and a carry strap for easy transportation. Since it weighs 15 lbs, it’s not exactly a shoulder type of stroller, but you can use a carry strap for short distances. The folded dimensions are 42″L x 12″W x 13″H

Cons

This stroller doesn’t have a lot of cons. There are only a few minor things that could be changed.

-Canopy makes noise. When you adjust the canopy it makes a loud clicking noise which is not a big deal but is very annoying.

-No suspension. With such small wheels, the suspension would really help with the bumps.

  1. hi Katrin, thank you for your review. i saw the summer infant “3d one” at the store, and it seems very similar to the 3d zyre (which retails for $129). can you tell me the difference between them, if there is any? (3d one seems to have the same features as zyre, aside from coming in different colors – black, orange, and green)
    thanks much,
    tara

  2. Hi I am interested in this stroller or the lite as my summer stroller ie getting to the pool or a quick trip in and out of a store. My son is 19 months and already 31lbs and we were using the chicco c6 which I loved bc it was so light and had some recline when needed. However the straps around his belly were not comfortable at all anymore bc of how big he was getting and weight limit seemed very low at 37lbs. I hate to spend even more money as I have a bob and a city but want something similar and similar in price but I always get nervous when I read the negative reviews of things (even if they have a ton of positive) and one being the summer infant would fold in on itself! Do you know if this is true or an issue with the stroller? Thanks!

  3. Hi Katrin- I am looking for a convenient stroller (have a jogging stroller, a KeyFit Caddy and we babywear a lot) to use mainly on sidewalks. I am seeing the Summer Infant 3d – One. is that the updated Zyre? Do you know? Also, do you think the Uppababy G-Luxe is a better investment or what about the OXO Cubby that comes out in June? Thank you!
