Orbit Baby G3 Stroller Review

orbit-baby-g3-48

I was a little surprised to see only a few Orbit Baby G3 stroller reviews considering how popular this model is.

So, I feel like my review is way overdue. First of all, I want to say that I ABSOLUTELY love the unique design of G3. It doesn’t look like any other stroller.

The futuristic style and clean lines set it apart from all other brands. If somebody in ‘Star Wars’ had a baby, they would definitely go for G3. Right? LOL.

The other day I was talking to my girlfriend who doesn’t have kids yet but is trying to get pregnant.

She always talks about baby stuff. We talked about popular strollers and then she asked: ‘What about that other thing that many celebrities use that has a futuristic egg-shaped seat?’ It’s like she knew it was a stroller, but thought maybe it wasn’t really just a stroller. Haha!

Speaking about celebrities, they love Orbit Baby. Some of the celebs spotted with it are: Kim Kardashian, Rachel Zoe, Selma Blair, Jessica Simpson, Molly Sims, Emily Blunt, Kristin Cavallari, Megan Fox, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, and the list goes on.

Aside from the cool look, it’s super customizable and has tons of great features. G3 grows with your family. After getting your G3 base, you can choose between a G3 infant car seat, bassinet, or stroller seat.

Next, you pick your basket and a colorful shade. You can also turn it into a double mode by getting a double kit. It can be used with two infant car seats, two bassinets, or two stroller seats.

For the older toddler, you can get a stroller board that attaches to the rear wheel of the stroller. You can even add two stroller boards for two toddlers.

The G3 stroller also features a large canopy, roomy seat, deep recline, adjustable handlebars, huge basket, adjustable leg rest, front-wheel suspension, automatic lock, and a 5-point harness.

But, the main feature of G3 is of course its 360-degree rotating seat that you can rotate without taking your child out.

The G3 stroller with the main seat weighs 29 lbs, which sounds like a lot, but since you need to remove the seat before folding the frame, you never have to lift the whole stroller. The frame with the basket weighs only 19 lbs while the seat is only 10 lbs.

OVERALL

I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars because of the high price, bulkiness, and heavyweight. It would be nice to have a peekaboo window in the canopy. I would also like to see larger all-terrain wheels like many other convertible strollers (like UPPABaby Vista and Britax B-Ready).

If Orbit Baby can make the wheels larger, I would give it 5 stars. On the bright side, this is a high-quality stroller with a unique design. The 360-degree rotating seat is the coolest feature I’ve ever seen on the stroller.

The environmental friendliness of all of the materials is another BIG plus for me. There is also a wide range of accessories available to parents.

You can get the Orbit Baby G3 travel system in one of the seven beautiful colors for around $1,250. The package includes a G3 frame, G3 infant car seat, G3 car seat base, and G3 main stroller seat.

It also comes with two parent cup holders, a bumper bar, a child’s tray, and a large cargo basket.

Features

CANOPY

For the G3 model, the canopy material has been upgraded to a tougher fabric.  This large canopy has three large panels that go all the way down to the bumper bar providing full coverage.

The canopy is UPF 50+ and is made out of environmentally friendly Oeko-Tex® certified material. Add some color to your G3 model by choosing between seven beautiful sunshades. Unfortunately, there is no peekaboo window.

HANDLEBARS

The G3 model has two adjustable handlebars that go from 40″ to 46.5″ from the ground. The ergonomically positioned handles are covered with soft foam.

orbit-baby-g3-3

CUP HOLDERS

INCLUDED! Two built-in cup holders are located between the handlebars. I found these cup holders very conveniently located not only for the drinks but also because I can hang my shopping bags on both handles without them falling down to the ground.

SEAT

I think the seat is the most interesting feature of G3. It’s not only reversible but also 360-degree rotatable. To rotate the seat, you don’t even need to take your child out.

You can easily do it on the go by just squeezing two levers on the side and turning it. It can also be used as a high chair at the restaurant! Just turn the seat sideways and move it closer to the table.

This is the ONLY 360 degree rotatable stroller seat on the market. The seat is 13.5″ wide with 21″ seat back and a measurement of 23″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy.

The seat can accommodate a child from birth and up to 50 lbs. To recline the seat, use the same two levers on the side. The seat pad is covered with soft cotton breathable material that provides great ventilation on a hot summer day. It’s removable and machine washable.

INFANT INSERT

INCLUDED! The seat comes with a soft nicely padded insert that will give your smaller child great support. When your child is older, you can easily remove it.

orbit-baby-g3-13

A lot of families that live in warm climates will be happy to know that there is a large mesh panel in the back of the seat that will provide your child with great air circulation on a hot summer day.

HARNESS

It has an adjustable padded 5-point harness with a center release buckle. The buckle is easy to do for parents but is tough for a toddler. To release it, you have to push red buttons in the middle and squeeze two black buttons on both sides at the same time.

It’s easy for parents, but your toddler wouldn’t be able to escape. What I also like about this harness is that the waist straps are nicely connected to the shoulder straps so you don’t need to connect them together like a puzzle piece every time you use it. This saves time and a lot of frustration.

FOOTREST

The footrest goes up and down, but does not provide any additional flat space for a smaller baby since it’s not part of the seat.

BASKET

When it comes to the basket you have two options: Cargo Pad or Cargo Basket. The Cargo Pad is a smaller option that doubles also as a diaper bag. It has a bunch of smaller pockets on the sides just like your regular diaper bag would have.

The convenience of a Cargo Pad is that you can pack it at home and use it as a stand-alone diaper bag, but when not needed attach it underneath the seat. It can hold up to 5 lbs.

orbit-baby-g3-23

The Cargo Basket is the larger storage option. It will fit your large diaper bag with no problems. It can also hold up to 5 lbs.

This basket is not only large, but also very easy to access from the back and the front. It has two zipper pockets on both sides for smaller essentials.

STORAGE

If you like to go grocery shopping with your stroller and need more storage you can get so called ‘stroller pannier’ which I call a side basket’.

It can be attached to both sides of the stroller and holds up to 4.5 lbs of cargo. I really like that Orbit Baby has so many cool practical accessories available to parents.

WHEELS

It rolls on four foam-filled hard rubber wheels with 9″ wheels in the back and 6.5″ wheels in the front. The front wheels are swivel but can be locked straight for more stability.

Although it’s not an all-terrain stroller, the wheels are a good size and will handle a lot of terrains. You can take it to the park for a long walk or explore city streets with uneven sidewalks with no problems.

Even when I took it over the grass or mulch the ride was pretty smooth for non all-terrain model. Now, if you look at other popular convertible stroller in the same category, you will see larger sometimes all-terrain wheels.

UPPABaby and Britax B-Ready have 11″ rear all-terrain wheels. That being said, I would like to see larger wheels in the back.

It has patented Quadshock™ front-wheel suspension for a smooth ride.

orbit-baby-g3-6

BRAKES

The brakes are flip-flop-friendly. They are color-coded with a red pedal for locking it and a green one for unlocking it.

orbit-baby-g3-1

FOLD

The fold is very easy, but you will need to remove the seat before folding the frame. Baskets can stay attached. You can easily fold the frame with one hand by just twisting a crossbar in the back and lifting the frame. Done!

There is also an automatic lock. At first, it looks like a bulky package because you have to remove the seat, but once you put the seat on top of the folded frame it gets a little more compact.

Just like all of the convertible strollers it will take up a lot of room in your trunk. The folded dimensions are  32.5″L x 15.5″W x 13″H. Surprisingly, the width of the folded frame is only 15.5″ compared to 24″ when it’s unfolded.

orbit-baby-g3-4

orbit-baby-g3-8

Now, I want to say a few word about the weight. If you take the weight of the stroller with the seat and a basket attached it comes to 29 lbs. Ouch! That’s a lot.

But, since you have to remove the seat before folding the frame, you really never have to lift the whole 29 lbs. The toddler seat weighs only 10 lbs, while the frame with the basket attached weighs only 19 lbs. I think anybody can lift that.

orbit-baby-g3-9

BUMPER BAR

It comes with a removable swing-away bumper bar that is very easy to clean.

SNACK TRAY

The snack tray is attached right to the bumper bar so you can swing it away when not needed. What I like about his snack tray is that it has two compartments with a plastic cover. How convenient is that?

BASSINET OPTION

I am absolutely in love with the G3 Bassinet! It’s lightweight, portable, and can be used as an extra sleeping space for the baby. It weighs only 10 lbs and can be docked on any Orbit stroller base creating a stylish pram.

orbit-baby-g3-33

You can also use it with a rocker base for a perfect beside-height sleeping cradle.

orbit-baby-g3-42

The breathable aero-mesh mattress insert provides great airflow while the soft-touch breathable Oeko-Tex certified fabric inside of the bassinet wicks moister away from the skin for consistent temperature.

It folds down to only 6″ in height for easy traveling. It comes with a removable cover that keeps baby warm and well protected. The bassinet can accommodate a child from birth and up to 20 lbs.

orbit-baby-g3-32

The large canopy has a hidden full-cover sunshade extension that blocks sun, wind and light rain.

TRAVEL SYSTEM OPTION

You can convert G3 into a travel system by replacing the seat with an Orbit Baby G3 infant car seat. Since G3 works ONLY with G3 infant car seat I want to say a few words about it.

This unique car seat has a circular car seat base that will allow you to rotate the can seat 360 degrees making it super easy to get your baby in and out of the car. BTW, this is the ONLY car seat in the world that has 360 degree rotation feature.

Just like with the car base, you can dock it into the stroller base and rotate it 360 degrees. Another great feature of this car seat is the deeper side walls that cocoon your baby from the crash forces and shield flying debris. You are not going to believe it, but it takes only 30 seconds to install it into the car! It’s that easy.

orbit-baby-g3-39

Just like the bassinet, the infant car seat has also a hidden full-cover sunshade extension that blocks sun, wind and light rain.

orbit-baby-g3-43

The ergonomically positioned handle lets you carry your baby close to your body.

orbit-baby-g3-44

DOUBLE MODE OPTION

You can easily turn your stroller into a double mode by getting so called ‘Helix Plus Double Kit’. The additional frame with two wheels slides right into the frame of the stroller making the upgrade an easy thing.

The kit also includes an adjustable handlebar with two cup holders that replaced the original two handlebars. This handlebar adjusts from 35″ all the way up to 45″ from the ground.

The Helix Plus base works with all Orbit Baby seats including the G3 Infant Car Seat, G3 Stroller Seat, G3 Bassinet, and G3 Toddler Car Seat. There is 12 seat combinations to make your kids happy! How cool is that?

orbit-baby-g3-46

STROLLER BOARD OPTION

One of my favorite accessories available for G3 is a stroller board. The cool thing about this board is that it attaches to the wheel and not the crossbar like most other boards.

This way, you still have enough legroom and can conveniently hold the handlebars without older toddler getting in the way. Need two boards? Not a problem! You can attach a stroller board to each rear wheel.

It also comes with a handlebar for your toddler that attaches to the side of the frame. It takes only a few seconds to attach the board and you can even leave it on when folding the stroller. Easy!

Cons

-Expensive. This baby is not cheap! Because it works only with G3 infant cat seat you have to get the whole travel system. The final price tag will be around $1,250. That’s a lot comparing to other travel systems.

-Bulky. Like most reversible seats and convertible strollers, it’s not very compact once folded. To make it more compact, you can remove the storage basket, and the wheels.

-Heavy. The stroller frame with the main seat and a cargo basket weighs 29 lbs. This is a little higher than most popular convertible strollers like UPPABaby Vista (27 lbs) and Britax B-Ready (27 lbs). Now, because you have to remove the seat before folding it, you really never have to lift the whole stroller. The seat weighs only 10 lbs, while the frame with the basket is only 19 lbs.

-No all-terrain wheels. Most other convertible strollers have larger all-terrain wheels. I think the wheels could definitely be a little bigger (like 11″ or 12″ instead of 9″).

-No peekaboo window. This is not a big problem because you can easily turn the seat to face you if you want to see your child, but it still would be nice to have a peekaboo window so you can spy on an older toddler. I noticed that many luxury strollers (like Stokke or Bugaboo) don’t have peekaboo windows.

-Two-hand recline. You need to use two levers on the side of the seat to recline the seat. I would prefer to see a one-hand lever recline like many other luxury models have. It would be much easier to recline the seat on the go, than stropping and using both hands.

  1. The recline on my G2 is one handed, did Orbit really change it to two handed on the G3? The swivel and undocking is two handed on the G2 however.

  2. My lever for my orbit stroller is broken, hence i cant detached my stroller, what should i do? Any repairs to be done?
